Our current location at 3241 Lowell Boulevard is in the process of being sold to a developer who will then turn the building into apartments. We will remain in the building until at least April 30th, but likely longer, on a month-to-month lease.
Q: Where are we going?
Initially the plan was to use the auditorium at North High School and this may still be the best short-term option. However on January 31st, our circumstances changed when we were told that we are no longer allowed to use on-site storage at North High. We will remain prepared to vacate our current space and set up weekly at North High.
Q: Will the current volunteers become burned out due to the move and extra time needed to set up and tear down every week at North High?
This is a major consideration as we look at the possibility of using the auditorium at North High. Initially we understood that we could use some of their storage rooms as weekly storage, limiting the amount of work to set-up and tear-down on Sundays. However, this is no longer the case. If we do decide to utilize the North auditorium, it will require the help of many, so that the dedicated few don’t get burned out. A significant factor in the decision to delay the move was to be sure we have the best system in place for our weekly set-up and tear-down, so as to best protect our volunteers and keep Sundays a fun place to serve.
Q: How will the temporary move affect mid-week activities?
During this time of transition, we will focus on Deepen Groups. These groups provide opportunities to form new friendships and explore the biblical text and themes of Sunday messages to a greater depth. We are exploring different ideas for community activities that do not require the use of a building.
Q: How will the move affect the children’s ministry?
Our children’s ministry will recreate the environment that our kids are used to as much as possible. The Christ-centered "godly play" curriculum will continue regardless of our location.
Q: Will we have to change our name if we leave the immediate area?
NO! Our name and all that we believe in will not be changed during our move.
Q: Will the space feel ‘sacred’ enough?
The energy and rituals we bring into North will be the same as what we do each week at 3241 Lowell. We anticipate some adjustments to any new space, but we also anticipate that the worship we bring will invite a new sacredness into that space
Q: How can I help?
We will need everyone to jump in and help when the time comes to pack and move! Email Melissa Sausman: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it so she can contact you when it’s time to get going.
Q: Will the current volunteers become burned out due to the move and extra time needed to set up and tear down every week at North?
We are hoping to increase our volunteers by at least double. It will take more time each Sunday to create the service space and tear it down. We value everyone’s time and hope to have more hands to help once we move.
Q: How can I help?
Sign up to help before the move, pack a box, move a box or build a box! Sign up for a team now and start helping! Sign ups in the foyer.
Q: Once we move, how long will we be at our temporary location? Are we still looking for a permanent home?
We are continuing to look for a permanent home. While we are at our temporary location, it will allow us to grow in financial stability so that when we find the right place for us we will be in a position to afford it, whether it is a long term lease or purchase.
Q: Will we become involved in the community in that area of town?
We will continue to build relationships where we can in the community. If we decide on North, we are excited to explore ways that our church can serve the students and faculty of North High. We think there will be great opportunities to support their work through tutoring, mentoring, etc. Most of our outreach will occur through one or more of our current ministry teams, for example Community Life Outreach.
Q: Are we concerned that attendance will drop off?
We have no control over whether people will make the move with us or not but will do our best both to communicate the move and create the environments both for worship and community so that we all stay connected.
Q: Can we put money aside for a building fund?
Absolutely! But our first financial priority for 2012 is to be able to start fairly compensating our staff who have served the church these first couple years for either no compensation or very little, relative to the "market value" of staff in other churches. Since we plan to impact the Highlands for generations, we are eager to have a permanent presence in our community. We hope to continue to be a strong light of Christ's presence in Denver, in Highlands, and around the world.
